Lost Train and Liberation
In April 1945, the SS transported the exchange hostages by train in the direction of Theresienstadt. One train was liberated near the village of Tröbitz. Many hostages died during and shortly after the journey. The survivors later referred to this train as the Lost Train.
Why did the SS force the exchange hostages to leave Bergen-Belsen?
The SS continued to consider the exchange hostages valuable. They did not want to hand them over to the liberators.
